My post sits at the edge of the finishing floor, where sheets of raw steel pass through the bluing process before shipment. The air carries a faint metallic tang, and the machines hum steadily as steel is treated to resist rust.

The process forms a thin oxide layer on the metal's surface, giving it a dark, faintly blue sheen while protecting it from corrosion. Everything nearby, from the treatment tanks to the stacked panels, carries that same steel blue tint.

As a security guard, I do not operate the machinery, but I make sure the process runs safely. I check that only authorized workers enter the treatment area, since the chemicals involved can be hazardous, and I watch over the storage of raw and finished stock to prevent theft or interference.

Much of my shift involves walking the perimeter, checking access points, and reviewing camera feeds of the tanks glowing under blue tinted light. Little happens most days, but that steadiness is the point. My presence keeps the process undisturbed, protecting both the workers and the steel.

By the end of my shift, the finished panels sit ready for transport, each one bearing that unmistakable steel blue finish, a quiet sign of the protection built into every sheet.
